Author bio
Ronie Kendig grew up in a military family and moved often as a child. By fourth grade, she had already attended six schools, and she has said the characters in her head became her most reliable companions. She was not born in Texas, but she spent most of her life there and still thinks of herself as a Texan.
Those early imaginary friends turned into a writing life.
Kendig studied psychology at Liberty University, which makes sense once you read her fiction. She writes people under pressure, soldiers, survivors, leaders, and skeptics, and she pays close attention to how fear, guilt, grief, and loyalty shape what they do next. Before she was publishing novels, she was already building big stories, including the space saga that would later become the Droseran books.
She broke into publishing in 2010, and readers quickly learned what a Ronie Kendig novel feels like. Nightshade and the rest of the Discarded Heroes stories brought covert operations, PTSD, broken marriages, and battered faith onto the page without losing the speed of a thriller. Wolfsbane went on to win a Christy Award, and later books such as Conspiracy of Silence and Crown of Souls picked up more major honors.
She likes pressure on the page.
A lot of Kendig's best-known books live in the world of military suspense. In Trinity: Military War Dog, Raptor 6, and Hawk, readers get elite teams, split-second decisions, and strong bonds between handlers, dogs, and the people they are trying to protect. Even when the plot is moving fast, her stories usually leave room for recovery, faith, family strain, and the long shadow of service.
Readers who come for the explosions usually stay for the fallout. Her heroes and heroines are often competent to the point of stubbornness, but the real story is what happens after the mission, when trust has to be rebuilt and ordinary life feels harder than combat.
She has never stayed in one lane for long. With Embers and the rest of Abiassa's Fire, she moved into epic fantasy built on royal siblings, fire magic, and sacrifice. With Brand of Light and the Droseran books, she carried that same mix of speed, wounded characters, and romance into space fantasy. Across genres, the through line is easy to spot: loyal teams, scarred people, high stakes, and hope that has to be fought for.
Her life off the page still reflects a lot of what shows up in the books. She married an Army veteran, has spent years mentoring other writers and speaking at events, and has long had a soft spot for military working dogs. After nearly a decade on the East Coast, she and her husband moved back to Texas, where they share life, barbecue, and peach cobbler with their dogs, Benning and AAndromeda. That mix of grit, humor, service, and home is all over her work.
