Author bio

Roni Loren grew up in New Orleans, and that city still shows up all over her work. The food, the music, the humidity, the haunted little corners of everyday life, all of it finds its way into her stories.

She started early.

Loren wrote her first romance novel at fifteen, partly because writing about boys felt easier than talking to them. She still jokes about that, but it also tells you something real about her books. They are interested in desire, awkwardness, fantasy, and the strange things people reveal when they finally feel safe enough to be honest.

Before she wrote full time, she earned a master's degree in social work and spent years working as a mental health counselor. That background matters. Her romances are sexy, yes, but they are also unusually attentive to trauma, shame, recovery, and the messy way people learn to trust themselves and other people again.

Her characters often need the emotional equivalent of a deep breath.

A lot of readers first found her through the Loving on the Edge books, which mix BDSM romance, suspense, and a web of connected characters. Later books like Off the Clock and By the Hour kept the heat but moved into a sex-positive workplace setting with therapists, researchers, and people who are supposed to understand intimacy better than they actually do. Loren does not use sex scenes as decoration. They usually tell you who has power, who is scared, and who is finally telling the truth.

Across her series, she returns again and again to people who look put together from the outside and are barely holding it together underneath. Survivors. Caretakers. Overachievers. Women rebuilding after divorce. Men trying to outrun old labels. Consent, communication, and self-knowledge come up a lot. So do found family, second chances, and the question of whether home is somewhere you return to or something you build for yourself.

She can shift gears, too. The Ones Who Got Away and its sequels are contemporary romances about survivors of a school shooting returning to the Texas town where everything changed. The books are painful, funny in the right places, and deeply interested in what healing actually looks like years later. Then in Yes & I Love You and What If You & Me, she heads back to New Orleans and writes with a lighter, more playful surface while still giving her characters real anxiety, grief, physical scars, and complicated inner lives.

That mix of heat and heart has brought Loren bestseller status and two RITA Awards, including wins for Off the Clock and Nice Girls Don't Ride. But the better shorthand is probably this: if you like romance that is emotionally open, sex-positive, and a little braver than average about what people carry around inside, she is a very good writer to try.

These days she writes full time from North Texas. Publisher bios place her in Dallas with her husband and son, and she has described working from a cozy office there. You can feel both halves of her writing life in the books, the New Orleans girl at heart and the former counselor who knows people are rarely just one thing.
