Rondua / Answered Prayers Books in Order

Rondua, also called the Answered Prayers sequence, is a set of six loosely connected novels. The books do not follow one hero through a single continuous adventure. Instead, they share characters, emotional echoes, and a world in which dreams, death, memory, and waking life keep crossing paths.

It begins with Bones of the Moon. Cullen James lives an ordinary life in New York, but her dreams take her to Rondua, a dangerous fantasy realm with its own rules, creatures, and urgent quest. As she searches for the powerful Bones of the Moon, the dream world begins to press into her daytime life. The novel establishes a key idea for the sequence: the impossible is not separate from ordinary life. It is already inside it.

The next book, Sleeping in Flame, shifts to Vienna and follows former actor Walker Easterling and artist Maris York. Their love story becomes tangled with past lives, strange powers, and an old conflict that has not stayed in the past. Vienna matters throughout Carroll's work, and here it is both a real city of friends, cafés, and creative work, and a place where hidden forces can surface.

The connections are real, but they are not always obvious.

A Child Across the Sky follows filmmaker Weber Gregston after the death of his friend Philip Strayhorn. A mysterious videotape draws Weber into a trail of unsettling clues. Outside the Dog Museum moves to architect Harry Radcliffe, whose commission to design an extraordinary museum leads him into magic and upheaval. After Silence is a more grounded and painful story about a family built around a buried crime, then pushed toward disaster when the truth comes out.

The final novel, From the Teeth of Angels, brings several troubled people into contact with Death itself. Questions asked in dreams carry frightening consequences, and the book returns to the series' long-running concern with how people live when they know loss is unavoidable.

These are intimate, unsettling books rather than action-led fantasy. The characters are artists, teachers, parents, lovers, filmmakers, and people trying to make sense of their mistakes. Talking animals, ghosts, dream kingdoms, and uncanny coincidences appear alongside dinners, breakups, illness, work, and old friendships. The tone can be funny one moment and frightening the next.

Start with Bones of the Moon. It gives the clearest entry into Rondua and prepares you for a series where reality is never quite as settled as it seems.
