Rolling Hills is Sloan's small-town comfort read series, even when the characters themselves are anything but comfortable. Set in a Tennessee town where people know each other, notice everything, and get involved whether you asked them to or not, these books trade stadium lights for local businesses, family routines, and the kind of community where secrets do not stay secret for long.

The first book, The One I Want, brings a lost twenty-something heroine to town looking for a reset and pairs her with Wes Taylor, a single dad whose children quickly become part of the emotional center. That combination tells you a lot about the series. The romance matters, of course, but so do belonging, purpose, and the quieter question of what home is supposed to feel like.

From there, the books keep circling different versions of love arriving at inconvenient times. The One I Need takes an accidental marriage setup and gives it to two total opposites, one cynical and one stubbornly hopeful. The One I Love slows things down with childhood best friends, a secret relationship, and a town that gets the wrong idea and runs with it. The One I Hate turns up the friction with enemies to lovers, restaurant dreams, and an accidental pregnancy that forces two people who bicker well to get honest fast.

The town itself does a lot of the work here. Rolling Hills is the kind of place where a bar owner, a restaurant, a family house, and a few familiar streets can keep pulling characters back into one another's lives. Kids matter. Exes matter. Business plans matter. The setting is not just a backdrop you could swap out for somewhere else.

Small-town gossip matters here.

So does found family. Even when a book centers on one couple, there is usually a sense of a wider support system or, depending on the scene, a wider audience. That makes the series feel warm without becoming too soft. People can meddle, misunderstand, or get in the way, but they also make the world feel lived in.

Tone-wise, this is Sloan at her coziest. The books are still sexy and funny, and the setups are still high-concept enough to hook you quickly, but there is more room for domestic detail, emotional recovery, and the slow realization that a good life might be smaller and better than the one a character originally pictured. If you like small-town romance with plenty of chemistry, overlapping side characters, and couples who have to build real lives instead of just survive one dramatic moment, Rolling Hills is a very easy series to settle into.
