Her story with Dodge Atwell, a scarred rodeo man who keeps showing up with rescued dogs, takes the emotional tone in a slightly more tender direction. Their romance is built around care, patience, and the quiet work of learning to trust someone who sees right through your defenses.

Animals matter here, too.

Not in a cute cameo way, but in a story-shaping way. Dogs, horses, veterinary work, and rescue all deepen the sense that these are books about damaged things, and people, being handled gently enough to mend. That gives the series a strong emotional identity, especially when paired with the rodeo backdrop, where toughness is admired and vulnerability is easy to hide.

Faith also plays a more visible role here than it does in some of Wilson's later romantic comedies. These are romances with a clear inspirational element, and that shapes the pace and the conflicts. The books are interested in forgiveness, grace, and starting over, but they still keep their feet planted in everyday problems, regret, heartbreak, pride, and the ways a small town can either hold you up or make it impossible to forget.

Because there are only two books, Rodeo Royalty reads more like a compact visit than a long stay. That can be a plus. You get the sense of a connected place and a recurring cast without a huge time commitment. If you enjoy Texas settings, rodeo flavor, and heartfelt second chances with a wholesome edge, this little series has a lot going for it. It feels intimate, earnest, and very much like the foundation of the writer Wilson would become.
