Author bio

Robin Mahle was born in Phoenix and grew up in Arizona, though not in one fixed place. She has written about a childhood that felt fairly nomadic, with time spent in different parts of the United States, and that mix of movement and place shows up all through her fiction. Phoenix stayed important to her, and so did San Diego, a city she has described as a kind of second home.

Before writing became her full-time job, Mahle spent about twenty years working in the construction industry. She was also raising two children, which meant her first books had to be squeezed into the edges of the day. That detail matters because her career did not begin as a neat, straight line. It began the way a lot of writing lives begin, in the middle of everything else.

Then she made the jump.

After early success with her novels, Mahle left her day job and gave her time to fiction. Her first big run came through the Kate Reid books, beginning with All the Shiny Things, a thriller that starts with buried childhood trauma and grows into a long-running FBI series. From there she kept building, book by book, series by series, with a clear taste for danger, momentum, and characters who are forced to act before they feel ready.

That work ethic shows.

Readers who move through her catalog will notice how wide her crime fiction world is. State of Denial opens the Lacy Merrick books with espionage, cybercrime, and government corruption. Deep Blue Surrender introduces Allison Hart and shifts into Florida private investigator territory. No Safe Place starts the Rebecca Ellis novels, which lean more police procedural, while Last Seen brings in Louisiana investigator Remy Fontaine. Even when the setup changes, Mahle keeps returning to the same pressure points: secrets, loyalty, trauma, family strain, and the cost of chasing the truth.

She also likes strong settings. Florida, Louisiana, Maine, Arizona, Virginia, and small towns across the country all play real roles in the stories rather than sitting in the background. Her books tend to move fast, but they are grounded in the places where people work, hide, grieve, and make bad decisions. That makes her thrillers feel less like puzzles floating in space and more like trouble breaking into everyday life.

In recent years Mahle has moved further into stand-alone psychological suspense with books like The Chef, The Man in my Attic, and He's Lying About Everything. She also writes historical fiction under the pen name Christine Chase. Along the way, she has adapted some of her novels into teleplays, which makes sense when you read her work. The scenes are built to move.

Now she lives in Coastal Virginia with her husband and two children. She has said that, when she is not writing, she is just as happy at the beach with a Kindle as she is watching detective shows. That feels exactly on brand. Her fiction comes from someone who clearly enjoys the mechanics of suspense, but also understands the messier human side of it.
