Author bio
Robin Lee Hatcher grew up in Idaho, and that sense of place runs through her work. She has described herself as a girl who loved books even before she could read, the kind of future reader who would tackle cereal boxes, ketchup labels, or anything else with words on it.
Stories came first.
As a child and young adult, she imagined herself becoming a movie star. She took ballet for years, loved theater, and spent plenty of time performing. At the same time, she was filling notebooks and binders with stories and poetry, long before writing felt like a career plan.
That changed in adulthood. After years of reading widely and telling herself stories, she decided in the early 1980s to try writing professionally. She built a solid career in general-market romance first, learning how to keep pages turning and emotions honest.
Then her work took a turn that mattered deeply to her.
After about fifteen years of writing for the general market, and after what she has called a change in her own heart, Hatcher began writing novels that openly included Christian faith and values. That shift became a defining part of her later career. Faith is important in these books, but so are longing, regret, forgiveness, family strain, and the stubborn hope that people really can start again.
Readers can see that range across books like Dear Lady, A Vote of Confidence, Belonging, A Promise Kept, and Who I Am with You. Some fans come for the historical romances, especially the Idaho and western settings. Others love the contemporary novels, where wounded people in small towns slowly find their footing again. Either way, her stories tend to meet at the same place, ordinary people under pressure, trying to choose love, courage, and grace.
Idaho never really left her books.
Again and again, Hatcher returns to mountain towns, ranch country, church communities, and women who are building a life after disappointment. She writes plenty of romance, of course, but the love story usually sits beside something else, a family history, a spiritual crossroads, a broken friendship, a long-kept secret, or the pull of home. Even in books set far from the present day, the emotional problems feel close and familiar.
Her long career has brought plain, measurable success. She has written more than ninety-five novels and novellas, with more than five million copies in print, and her work has earned honors including the Christy, the RITA, and the Carol, along with lifetime achievement awards from Romance Writers of America and American Christian Fiction Writers.
These days, she still makes her home on the outskirts of Boise. She has written about loving family time, Idaho’s outdoors, books that make her cry, and romantic movies. Add in hobbies like Bible art journaling, decorative planning, and knitting, and the picture that emerges is of a writer who has stayed close to the things that have always shaped her work, heart, home, and story.
