Reputation

by Dr Rebecca Sharp

2018

Pop superstar Blake Tyler is watching her image implode after an album of breakup songs turns the media against her. To save her tour, she agrees to fake a relationship with songwriter Zach Parker, her brother’s best friend and childhood crush. Night after night on stage, pretending to fall in love starts to feel dangerously real.

Series background & context

Reputation is a standalone pop-star romance that brushes up against some of Dr Rebecca Sharp’s small-town worlds. It follows Blake Tyler, a global music sensation whose personal life has become a punchline, and Zach Parker, the songwriter and childhood neighbor who might be the only person capable of helping her rewrite the narrative.

When the book opens, Blake is in trouble. Her newest album – a breakup record full of songs about her exes – has become a tabloid feeding frenzy. Her tour, her brand deals, and the fragile parts of her self-worth are all at risk. Her team wants a fix that looks good on camera. The only person who feels real to her is the boy next door she crushed on growing up, who now happens to be a gifted but under-the-radar songwriter.

Zach has his own reasons to be wary. To him, Blake is still the neighbor’s kid sister who followed him and his best friend around, not the pop phenomenon whose every misstep trends worldwide. Agreeing to fake a relationship with her on tour could launch his career to the next level, but it also means sharing buses, stages, and late-night writing sessions with the one person he once kept at arm’s length. The plan is simple: let the world watch their “romance” blossom, then walk away when the cameras are done.

Of course, nothing stays simple. As they perform their relationship for the public, old history and new chemistry collide. Long-buried hurt about the way Zach once dismissed her mixes with Blake’s fear that everyone only wants a piece of her image, not the person underneath. The fake kisses and carefully staged interviews start to feel less like acting, and more like a second chance neither of them expected.

Reputation fits neatly alongside Sharp’s other work in the way it blends glittery settings with small, intimate emotional beats. There are arenas, tour buses, and screaming fans, but also quiet dressing-room talks, family dinners, and the kind of childhood memories you cannot outrun. For readers who love fake-dating, brother’s-best-friend tension, and stories about women taking back control of their narrative, this book stands well on its own while still echoing the themes of her broader catalog.
