Series background & context

Regency House Party: Havencrest is a multi-author collection set during one busy country-house gathering. A house party is a ready-made pressure cooker for romance: guests are expected to socialize, new arrivals bring rumors, and a person can only avoid an inconvenient attraction for so long. Mindy Burbidge Strunk opens the series with Miss Marleigh's Pirate Lord.

Abigail Marleigh attends the Havencrest house party with a clear goal. After an unsuccessful Season and other failed attempts to find a match, she sees this gathering as her final chance to marry before her uncle forces her into a marriage she does not want. She needs a respectable future, not a dangerous complication.

Then a wounded pirate appears in her carriage.

Alex Bellingham has spent six years posing as a pirate, but his crew has discovered the truth and he needs a place to hide. The house party seems like a convenient refuge, especially once he can resume the role expected of him in society. Abigail, however, already knows enough about his strange situation to make secrecy difficult.

The romance plays with the contrast between a polished Regency house party and the danger following Alex from the sea. Abigail has good reason to be cautious, while Alex must decide whether protecting her means staying close or walking away. The larger Havencrest cast adds the usual house-party mix of potential suitors, acquaintances, and watchful hosts.

Because each author follows a different couple at the same event, the series offers overlapping moments from several points of view. Strunk's book provides a strong entry point, but it also works as a complete story for readers who only want Abigail and Alex's adventure.

Expect a sweet Regency romance with a brisk, slightly swashbuckling premise. There are secrets, pursuit, a heroine under pressure from her guardian, and a hero who is more than the pirate image suggests. The tone stays romantic and escapist, with the house party giving the story a social setting where every hidden truth has a chance of being exposed.
