Author bio

Rebekah Weatherspoon grew up in Southern New Hampshire, on the campus of Phillips Exeter Academy. She later earned a BA in English with a concentration in Shakespearean works, which is a neat academic route into a career built on sharp humor, messy feelings, and people falling hard for each other.

She came to romance later than a lot of readers do.

She has talked about being overscheduled as a kid, the kind of childhood where after school activities left less room for pleasure reading than you might expect from a future novelist. Near the end of college she started reading more for fun, and after a stretch teaching middle school, a job in the Disney orbit gave her an unexpected push toward romance. Someone in the office wanted to know what teens were reading, so she picked up Twilight. That led her to online fanfiction, then to romance novels, and then to the feeling that she had found her lane.

Then she started writing her own.

Her first novel, Better Off Red, came out of that fanfiction era spark and sold to Bold Strokes Books without an agent. She has also joked that, after years of meddling in her friends' love lives, writing romance was a better way to get that same fix. That mix of sincerity and humor feels very true to her books. They take love seriously, but they also leave room for flirting, banter, awkwardness, and people making a mess before they figure themselves out.

Early titles like At Her Feet, Treasure, and the Vampire Sorority Sisters books made her interests clear right away. She was writing queer love stories, Black women at the center, college life, kink, paranormal elements, and characters whose bodies and desires felt specific instead of generic. The erotic content in those books is real, but so is the care around communication, trust, and emotional payoff.

As her catalog grew, so did her range. Rafe and Xeni are warm, funny contemporary romances with adults who actually talk to each other. Haven and Harbor lean darker, mixing suspense, grief, and recovery with intense chemistry. The Cowboys of California books take fairy tale setups and plant them in a Black California ranching community. Then Her Good Side and Summer Official showed that she could move into young adult romance without losing her sweetness or her easy feel for character.

She writes across lanes on purpose.

What ties the books together is pretty easy to spot. Weatherspoon likes big feelings, clear consent, found family, and characters who get to be desired exactly as they are. Her stories make room for plus-size heroines, queer couples, Black love, nerds, caregivers, complicated relatives, and people figuring out what they want, in bed, at home, and out in the world. Even when the setup is high concept, a vampire sorority, a fake girlfriend arrangement, a billionaire romance, the emotional core stays grounded.

The awards came early and kept coming. At Her Feet won a Golden Crown Literary Society award, and Soul to Keep won a Lambda Literary Award. Later books like Xeni and Harbor picked up romance honors too. She also created a reader resource devoted to romance by women and nonbinary writers of color, which says a lot about the kind of reading community she wants to help build.

Now based in Southern California, Weatherspoon has said she plans to stay put because she hates moving. That sounds about right. Whether she is writing vampires, cowboys, holiday magic, or two awkward teens practicing how to date, the promise stays steady: warmth, heat, humor, and characters who feel like they had a whole life before page one.
