Author bio

Rebecca Connolly was born in California and grew up in Ohio and Indiana. She calls herself a Midwest girl, and that mix of places fits her books: warm, a little funny, and grounded in people who feel real.

She has been making up stories since she was a kid, and there are home videos to prove it.

She started writing those stories down in elementary school and never really stopped. Later, she studied at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where she wrote her first novel while working on her bachelor’s degree. She went on to earn a master’s degree at West Virginia University, then eventually found her way back to the Midwest.

Alongside writing, Connolly has training and work experience in sports medicine and athletic training. That background shows up most clearly in her contemporary sports romances, where practices, injuries, schedules, and pressure feel like part of the world instead of window dressing.

Her books are written as closed-door romances. The focus is on the emotional payoff, the slow shift from doubt to trust, and the little choices that build a relationship.

Also, she is unapologetically devoted to hot cocoa.

Connolly writes in a few different lanes, but the voice stays consistent. In her Regency and Georgian stories, you can expect witty conversation, social pressure, and characters trying to do the right thing even while their hearts are getting louder. Series like Arrangements and London League mix courtship with extra tension, from marriages that start as agreements to missions that require secret identities.

She also likes writing about women who have been underestimated. The Spinster Chronicles leans into that idea with humor, letting “too old” and “not wanted” heroines take up space, make plans, and fall in love on their own terms. In Agents of the Convent, that competence shows up in a different way, with operatives who can pass as respectable young ladies while quietly protecting the country.

Not everything she writes is pure escapism, though the tone stays approachable. She has written historical fiction that looks at lives shaped by war and persecution, and she has stepped into biographical fiction with A Carol for Mrs. Dickens, imagining the private pressure behind a very public marriage. On the lighter side, her Claire Walker books pair cozy mysteries with baking and travel.

Connolly lives in Minnesota and still keeps a day job, squeezing writing into the hours she can steal for it. She has also shared that a head injury in 2014 cost her sense of smell, which is a strange thing to carry if you love food and hot cocoa as much as she does. When she is not writing, she is happiest with a book in hand and a swim somewhere on the schedule.
