Author bio
Rachel Jonas writes stories where desire and danger usually end up in the same room. She is a Michigan native, a wife, and a mother of three, and her books move between paranormal romance and contemporary YA/NA romance with a steady appetite for high stakes, sharp tension, and characters who rarely make life easy on themselves.
She clearly likes big feelings.
Her catalog under her own name began with The Genesis of Evangeline in 2017, the first book in The Lost Royals Saga. That series opened the door to one of her biggest fantasy worlds, a place shaped by wolves, dragons, witches, hidden bloodlines, and old loyalties that refuse to stay buried. She later expanded that same setting with Dragon Fire Academy, a spinoff that follows a new generation into an isolated academy where power, prophecy, and attraction all become hard to separate.
That fantasy side of her work is a good snapshot of what she does well. Books like Dark Side of the Moon, Heart of the Dragon, and First Term blend romance with larger magical conflict, so the love story always has pressure coming from the outside. Her heroines are usually forced to learn fast, trust carefully, and deal with the fact that being special often comes with a brutal price tag.
She can turn that same intensity in a darker direction, too. The Vampire's Mark, which begins with Dark Reign, drops readers into an alternate world ruled openly by vampire princes. It follows Corina, a rebel vigilante known as Blackbird, and builds a slow-burn, high-risk bond between her and the very men who sit closest to power. The appeal there is not just the romance. It is the mix of rebellion, danger, political tension, and the constant question of who is really using whom.
Then she pivots again.
Her contemporary books keep the pressure high, even without magic. In Kings of Cypress Pointe, written with Nikki Thorne, elite school politics, football stardom, gossip, and family power create the same kind of charged atmosphere her fantasy readers already know. Starting with The Golden Boys and continuing through Pretty Boy D, Mr. Silver, and Sexy Beast, that corner of her work leans into rivalry, obsession, messy loyalty, and interconnected casts who keep turning up in one another's lives.
That darker streak runs through Savage Kings of Bradwyn U as well, where college hockey, house politics, and dangerous secrets drive a rougher kind of romance. And with Devotion, the opening book in The Widowmaker Duet, Jonas pushes even further into dark territory with a story built around obsession, surveillance, and a villain who does not pretend to be safe. One thing that ties all of these books together is how often her worlds stay connected. Side characters become leads, old conflicts echo forward, and finishing one series usually means finding another door into the next one.
Across genres, the patterns are easy to spot. Jonas likes heroines with grit, love interests who are intense and sometimes a very bad idea, and settings where reputation and loyalty matter almost as much as desire. Even when she switches from shifter kingdoms to prep schools or vampire courts to college campuses, the emotional weather stays stormy.
The personal details she shares are simple and human. She has described herself as a Michigan native who made a career out of indulging the voices in her head, and she has also said she is a wife and mother of three. On the lighter side, she lists Twilight among her favorite series and H.E.R. as a favorite artist, which feels very much in line with a writer drawn to dark romance, supernatural tension, and feelings that arrive loud.
