When Amy's high school crush accidentally crosses into Averell, she has to go after him before the unfamiliar realm makes him dangerously ill. Her rescue mission brings together friends from both worlds, including a shape-shifting unicorn, and sends the group into the messier corners of a kingdom where unicorns, dragons, and royal duties do not always get along.

Amy is capable, but she is still fifteen.

That balance gives the story its charm. She can negotiate fantasy-world problems and understand magical rules that would overwhelm her Earth friends, yet she also worries about school, embarrassment, and whether she has made a terrible mistake. Her friends are not simply along for the ride, either. Their different knowledge and reactions help show how unusual Averell really is.

The fantasy setting has a playful fairy-tale feel, but the stakes matter. Amy needs to protect someone who is out of place in a dangerous world, keep her two homes from crashing into one another, and navigate the responsibility that comes with being a princess. The story also has plenty of room for humor, especially when ordinary modern concerns collide with royal protocol and magical creatures.
