Ex Appeal leans into second-chance romance, pairing fixer Vinh Doan with hacker Emily MacDonald, the ex he never really got over. That book adds a little more tension and a little more bite, while keeping the same emotional warmth.

Across the trilogy, Yardley keeps returning to a few things she does especially well. Ambitious people who are tired. Families that love hard and complicate everything. The tone is bright and easy to settle into, but the books are not weightless. Yardley writes about Asian American families, career pressure, class anxiety, and the awkward truth that plenty of adults still feel like the weird kid from school sometimes. There is a lot of banter, and the chemistry is strong, but the stories work because the characters are allowed to be specific, capable, and messy.
