Series background & context
Persistent Assimilation continues the adventures of Thaden, a healer whose abilities do not always behave as the surrounding game-like system expects. Jonathan Brooks moves the story beyond the world of Tarth and into Plangea, where earlier achievements do not guarantee safety. The series combines portal fantasy with LitRPG progression, using classes, spells, levels, and statistics as important parts of the action. Thaden remains powerful, but a new environment creates problems that raw strength alone cannot neatly resolve.
A change of worlds also means a change in what he can rely on.
In Enthralled Healer, the surviving Contenders and humans from Earth leave the developmental world of Tarth. Thaden's own journey takes an unexpected route, and his arrival on Plangea leaves him without many of his former advantages. Even the ordinary process of gaining levels becomes difficult in his circumstances. A possible solution appears when he learns that this world allows a profession-based Secondary Class. Instead of giving him the straightforward opportunity he expects, the selection process goes wrong and assigns him another Primary Class.
That new class, Novice Enthraller, provides abilities he can afford to use and a way to explore his surroundings. It also changes the practical questions around his development. The challenge is not simply becoming stronger along a familiar path, but understanding how an unusual combination of abilities fits a larger and more dangerous world. The Assimilation System and the Persistent Adversary remain involved, making the rules themselves part of the continuing problem. Readers who enjoy examining how a character's build works will find that concern central to the premise.
Ennobled Healer takes Thaden into another kind of opportunity. Following the defense of Teglir against a monster horde, the local Baron offers him a route to a noble title. Clearing special dungeons that only he can access appears to be a task suited to his abilities, and the reward could give his future plans legitimacy. Organizations searching for a particular healer complicate that arrangement. Thaden must pursue the dungeon challenge while avoiding people whose interest in finding him may put him at risk, with a deeper threat behind the immediate obstacles.
Begin with Enthralled Healer and continue with Ennobled Healer. This is a new story arc connected to Earthen Contenders, though the series is presented as accessible without reading that earlier sequence. Expect an overpowered protagonist working with a class normally associated with support, alongside detailed progression mechanics and a continuing need to adapt. The move to Plangea supplies a fresh setting, while Thaden's unusual relationship with the system provides the thread connecting the adventures.
