Of course, that first read is wrong. Shane comes off one way on the surface and another way once the mask starts to slip, which is where the title earns its keep.

That kind of story works well for Harms. She likes writing characters who are protecting something, and this book lets her stay close to that dynamic. The tension is not about a huge external threat. It is about proximity, irritation, attraction, and the slow realization that another person may be far more complicated than they first appeared.

So while this is a smaller series page, the tone should still feel familiar to Harms readers. You can expect emotional push and pull, a contemporary setting, and a romance that is driven more by trust and misreading than by spectacle. If you want something connected to family without needing a giant cast right away, Pearson Sisters is an easy place to step in.
