Series background & context

In the Brigantia world, panthers are linked with the assassin role, and that gives this sub-series a sharper, more forbidden edge than some of the others. The heroes are skilled, dangerous men shaped by secrecy and duty. The heroines are often women with roles or vows of their own, which means the romance starts from a place where wanting each other may be the one thing they are not supposed to do.

That tension is the heart of the series. Daniels uses the fantasy setting to make attraction feel costly. A priestess cannot simply walk away from expectation. An assassin cannot always live openly. The result is romance that feels a little more clandestine, a little more pressurized, while still staying inside Daniels's fast and readable style.

These books also feed into the wider Brigantia arc. The nation is under threat, old evils still matter, and the characters are part of a larger struggle that stretches across the guardian, champion, and assassin branches of the world.

If you like fantasy romance where desire collides directly with obligation, Panthers of Brigantia is one of Daniels's better series for that mood. It has danger, secrecy, and a strong sense that love is not only intimate, but also politically and spiritually disruptive.
