Author bio
Pamela Clare is the pen name of Pam White, a Colorado writer who built one career in journalism and another in romance. She has spent much of her life near Boulder, where the Rocky Mountains are part of the view and the foothills were part of growing up.
Her love of stories started early. At nine, she fell hard for Misty of Chincoteague. By twelve, she had moved through Marguerite Henry, Nancy Drew, C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Dostoevsky, and Ayn Rand. Then, at fifteen, she discovered romance through books such as The Flame and the Flower, Shanna, and Sweet, Savage Love.
That changed the map.
During her senior year of high school, Clare went to Denmark as an exchange student. She stayed for almost three years, lived with a Danish family in a thatched farmhouse, learned Danish, and traveled through Europe. Castles, cathedrals, and old streets gave her a lasting love of history.
Back in the United States, she studied classics, including Latin, Greek, ancient history, and archaeology. She later worked toward graduate degrees in archaeology and art history, but realized she was using school to put off the harder thing she really wanted to do, write fiction.
So she walked into a newsroom.
Clare worked her way through newspaper jobs as a columnist and investigative reporter, then became the first woman editor at a paper. Her reporting won state and national honors, including awards for public service and First Amendment work. That experience shows up clearly in the I-Team books, beginning with Extreme Exposure, where reporters chase dangerous stories while trying to keep their own lives from catching fire.
Her first published novel, Sweet Release, came out of her love of detailed historical romance. She followed it with historicals such as Surrender, then moved deeper into romantic suspense and contemporary romance with series like I-Team, Colorado High Country, and Cobra Elite. Readers often come to her for capable heroines, protective but wounded heroes, real danger, and settings that feel worked into the story instead of pasted on.
Today Clare is known for both historical romance and romantic suspense, with books that range from Colonial America to Denver newsrooms, Colorado mountain towns, overseas rescue missions, and Alaska’s Coast Guard world. She lives and writes in Colorado, close to the mountains that keep turning up in her work.
