Series background & context

The Ouroboros series moves Feener into hunter-and-monster territory. Prince of Bones begins with Mila, who has spent nearly her entire life preparing to lead the Ouroboros order, an ancient society of hunters with a long history of fighting the supernatural. She is trained, capable, and convinced she understands the enemy.

Then the enemy stops behaving the way it should.

That is the opening twist that gives the series its shape. Hunters are dying, old lines are blurring, and creatures that are supposed to work against each other are suddenly cooperating. Kestrel enters from the other side of that divide, hiding inside the hunter world while protecting motives Mila does not yet understand. That makes the series less about simple good-versus-evil combat and more about what happens when the system you trust is no longer enough.

The tone lands somewhere between dark YA fantasy and supernatural action romance. There are vampire and upir elements, secret orders, old grudges, and a lot of pressure on two people who should never be on the same side. If you like your fantasy with monster lore, uneasy alliances, and a heroine forced to question the story she was raised on, Ouroboros is the Feener page to open first.
