On Hold Books in Order

The On Hold series is a looser, more grounded corner of Julia Kent's interconnected world. Co-written with Elisa Reed, it spins out of the O Spa business introduced in the Shopping books and focuses less on billionaires behaving badly and more on grown adults trying to balance work, family, and the lives they thought they were supposed to have by now.

That gives the series a slightly different feel. The humor is still there, but the problems are more practical. Careers matter. Parenting matters. Timing matters. The people in these books are not fumbling through first adulthood. They are dealing with what happens when the life you planned and the life you actually want stop lining up.

Our Options Have Changed opens with Chloe Browne, director of design for the O Spa chain, on the verge of adopting as a single mother by choice. She is competent, focused, and not looking for romance to complicate the plan. Then Nick Grafton walks in. He is attractive, emotionally experienced, and coming from the opposite stage of family life, with older children and a hard-earned taste for freedom. Their story is about desire, yes, but it is also about whether two adults with very real responsibilities can make room for something unexpected.

Thank You for Holding stays in the same general world while shifting to another heroine in Chloe's circle. That makes the series feel connected without becoming crowded. The shared backdrop of the O Spa business gives both books a polished contemporary setting, while the characters themselves keep the tone warm and relatable.

These are not ingénue romances.

They are more interested in compromise, maturity, and the fact that love after thirty often comes bundled with logistics, baggage, and a much clearer sense of what you will not tolerate. That makes the series a nice fit for readers who like romantic comedy but want the characters to feel a little more seasoned.

If you want a Julia Kent series with workplace links, adult decisions, and a bit less zaniness than her broadest rom-coms, On Hold is worth a look. It still has the banter and heat you would expect, but it is equally interested in what it means to choose a life, not just a person.
