False Mermaid widens the map by bringing Nora back to Minnesota to face her sister Tríona's unsolved murder, while Cormac is pulled into a parallel mystery in Donegal. The Book of Killowen returns to Ireland and links a modern killing to a much older corpse and a lost manuscript.

The tone sits somewhere between literary crime novel and atmospheric thriller, but in plain terms these are patient, intelligent mysteries with real emotional stakes. They are not cozy, and they are not nonstop action either. Expect layered plots, damaged people, careful research, and a strong sense of place.
