Author bio
Nita Round was born in Wolverhampton and lives in the Heart of England. As a reader, she wanted fantasy with strong, relatable heroines, and that early wish ended up shaping the books she would go on to write herself.
She seems to have been telling stories for a very long time.
Round has said she wrote in one form or another all her life, but the move toward publication came step by step. She began with short fiction, and being chosen in a short story competition gave her the push to keep going. Writers' groups mattered too. One of those prompts eventually helped spark Lucinda Ravensburgh, a character who grew into the steampunk adventure of A Touch of Truth.
That mix of imagination and craft suits her work. She has said that history feeds her fiction, and you can feel it in the way she blends old-world textures with fantasy. Her books are full of airships, towers, haunted estates, hidden magic, dragons, and the kind of strange inheritance that can make a life much bigger, or much more dangerous, than expected.
Her range is broad. Knight's Sacrifice leans into dark urban fantasy, with undead trouble and a gate to hell. Lost and Found opens the Evie Chester books with magic, danger, and mystery in Bristelle. A Touch of Truth widens the frame into steampunk fantasy, with prophecy, missing people, and a trio of women at the heart of the action. The Ghost of Emily Tapper goes gothic, with curses, old houses, and family secrets. Then Black Dragon Rising shifts into young adult dragon fantasy, where an outcast healer is pulled into the center of a brewing war. Legacy of Light shows another side again, with Cassie Evans caught between demonic forces and the fragile boundary between the human world and what waits beyond it.
Across all of them, she likes women who keep going when the world gives them every reason to stop.
That is probably the clearest thread through Round's bibliography. Her protagonists may have unusual gifts, but the real test is what they do when those gifts make life harder, not easier. Again and again, she returns to courage, duty, freedom, loyalty, and the messy pull of found family. The monsters are real, but so are the costs of fear, secrecy, and power.
She also tends to write magic as something with social weight. In her fiction, the supernatural is rarely just set dressing. It changes who gets believed, who gets feared, who is pushed to the edge, and who has to fight for a place in the room. That is part of what keeps the stories grounded, even when the plots involve demon hunters, tower witches, ghostly curses, or dragons in the sky.
Away from the keyboard, she has spoken about loving games, painting miniatures, cooking, gardening, reading, and exploring castles and other historic places. Those interests make sense once you have read her books. There is a maker's pleasure in the details, and a real fondness for the past, even when she is busy filling it with monsters.
Today, Round's catalogue stretches across urban fantasy, paranormal mystery, steampunk, gothic fiction, and dragon adventure. The worlds change, but the draw stays much the same: strong heroines, a steady sense of momentum, and stories where the strange is never far from hope.
