Series background & context

The Nexus House novels move Rick Campbell's knack for military detail into deep space. Set in the thirty first century, the series follows the Colonial Fleet and a secretive order of clairvoyants as humanity fights to survive wars against alien empires and long feuding Houses.

Humanity has scattered across more than a hundred colony worlds, only to be driven back by the Korilian Empire, an expansionist alien power with superior fleets. At the same time, the Nexus House, a conclave of gifted humans who can see and shape possible futures, quietly advises political and military leaders from its mountain stronghold.

The Final Stand opens with the colonies collapsing and Earth preparing for a last ditch defense. Admiral Jon McCarthy leads the shattered Colonial Fleet, while Rhea Sidener, known as the One, searches for a new seer to guide him. She finds Lara Anderson, a grief counselor hiding a forbidden ability to read minds, and pulls her into a plan that may save Earth or finish it.

In Descent Into Hellios and The End of Time, the war with the Korilian Empire grinds on. McCarthy and Lara take the fight deep into enemy territory, investigating ruins and secret facilities that hint at older powers at work. Alongside them is Elena Kapadia, another powerful Nexus whose years of captivity have left her both valuable and unpredictable.

As the early battles end, the threat shifts. The Synthec War introduces a new enemy, a synthetic species determined to wipe out all organic life. To resist it, humans and Korilians form a fragile alliance, and the Nexus House must work with former enemies even as political leaders on both sides consider betrayal.

With Annihilation and The Seed of Destruction, the long running House War between Nexus and Corvad flares back to life. The Corvad House emerges from hiding to attack Domus Praesidium, the Nexus stronghold, while McCarthy's fleet scrambles to repel fresh assaults and Lara hunts for ancient artifacts like the shattered Krystalis gem that might tip the balance.

Compared with the Trident Deception thrillers, these books trade steel hulls and sonar rooms for carrier groups in space, time bending visions, and star spanning politics. They still feel rooted in operations and tactics, with fleet actions that unfold like carefully planned naval battles and psychic abilities treated as tools in a commander's kit rather than pure magic.
