One explosive night leaves him on the run, and he lands on Nelson Island as a ranch hand on the Hopewell property. That is where he meets Aston Hopewell, the wealthy daughter of the family that owns the place. The book gets a lot of tension out of Sam's split loyalties. He cares about the life he left behind, but he is also being pulled toward a future he never thought he could want, much less have.
