Author bio

Naomi Rawlings writes historical Christian romance with a strong sense of place. She lives with her husband and three children in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, where deep snow, woods, rivers, and Lake Superior are part of everyday life.

That landscape feels close to her books.

Her stories are full of weather, work, and communities that have to rely on one another. Bakers, fishermen, ranchers, captains, sheriffs, doctors, widows, and immigrants all get their turn at the center. The people in her fiction usually carry some hurt, but they keep going, and that mix of hardship and hope is a big part of why readers return. Her books are not flashy. They tend to mix domestic detail with real danger, a loaf of bread on the table, ice on the harbor, a church social, then trouble at the door.

Rawlings's first published novel was Sanctuary for a Lady, later reissued as The Lady's Refuge. It set the pattern for a lot of what came after: a historical setting, real danger, faith under pressure, and a romance built around two people learning to trust each other. Her early Belanger Family books lean into war, class conflict, and divided loyalties in France and along the English Channel.

Then came Lake Superior.

Her best known work is the Eagle Harbor series, set in a small Michigan town on the shore of the lake. Books like Love's Unfading Light, Love's Every Whisper, and Love's Bright Tomorrow give readers lighthouses, fishing boats, stubborn townsfolk, and families whose lives keep crossing. People often come to Rawlings for the romance, then stay for the setting and the feeling that the whole town matters.

She later moved west with the Texas Promise books, including Tomorrow's First Light, Tomorrow's Shining Dream, and Tomorrow's Constant Hope. Those novels trade cold water for dry ranch country, but they keep the same interest in ordinary people building homes, protecting family, and finding love when life has turned messy. The Wyoming Heir fits that side of her writing too, pairing western roots with an inheritance story and a heroine who refuses to give up on her school.

More recently, Rawlings turned north again with the Dawn of Alaska series. Written on the Mist, Whispers on the Tide, and Above all Dreams open up a bigger frontier, one with ships, rough weather, lawmen, doctors, scientists, and an Amos family that ties the books together. The scale is larger, but the heart is familiar: people trying to do right, people making room for grace, and people finding home in difficult places. Readers who like interconnected families and recurring side characters usually find a lot to enjoy there.

Her novels have been shortlisted for three publishing awards. Just as important, they return again and again to the things she seems to care about most: faith, forgiveness, family ties, and the dignity of daily work.

These days she is still writing from the Upper Peninsula, in a place where snow piles up fast and the outdoors is never far away. It suits her fiction. So do the quieter rhythms of the past.
