Muse Squad Books in Order

The Muse Squad books are middle grade fantasy adventures that mix Greek mythology with contemporary family life, school worries, and the kind of friendship that can change how a kid sees herself. At the center is Calliope Martinez-Silva, usually called Callie, a Cuban American girl from Miami who learns that she is the newest Muse of Epic Poetry. That sounds glamorous for about five seconds. Then the real work starts.

In Muse Squad, strange events pull Callie out of ordinary sixth-grade life and into a secret world of muses, prophecies, and magical responsibility. She ends up at Muse Headquarters in London, where she meets three other junior muses, Thalia, Nia, and Mela. Each girl has her own strengths, her own style, and her own part to play. Together they are expected to guide and protect so-called Fated Ones, people whose talents could shape the future if they get the chance.

The magic has a job to do.

That gives the series a nice twist. These books are not really about chosen kids becoming powerful for the sake of power. They are about inspiration, encouragement, and what it means to help someone else become who they are meant to be. In the first book, that mission brings the squad back to Miami, where Callie has to balance her new role with grief over her aunt Annie, tension in her friendships, and the everyday awkwardness of being eleven. Myth creatures and danger show up, but so do family dinners, school problems, and the feeling that your regular life has suddenly become much too small.

In The Mystery of the Tenth, the story shifts to New York City, where Callie is supposed to be spending the summer with her dad, stepmom, and baby brother. Instead, the squad gets word that an unprecedented tenth muse may have awakened in Queens. A summer arts camp, cryptic spider messages, and a campmate named Ari pull the girls into a bigger mystery with older roots. The second book widens the world of the series without losing the close-up emotional stuff that makes the first one work.

At heart, this is a friendship series.

What ties the duology together is Callie's voice and the way Acevedo keeps the stakes large and personal at the same time. Callie wants to do the right thing, but she also wants to keep her friends, understand her family, and feel at home in her own skin. The tone is fast, warm, and adventurous, with enough danger to keep things moving and enough heart to keep it grounded. Readers can expect portals, sirens, museums, school drama, family changes, and a heroine who grows stronger not by standing alone, but by learning how to lift other people up.
