Series background & context

Mountain Home Magic & Mystery centers on Angelica Parker, a witch with a crowded, very local life in Mountain Home, North Carolina. She runs Greenleaf, an organic grocery store, plays fiddle with her band Blue Mountain Baby, and helps neighbors with healing when she can. Angelica would have enough to manage without murder, but the town has other plans.

Her closest sidekick is Vladimir, a Russian Blue kitten and familiar with a strong personality. Angelica also relies on Willa Kent, who helps keep Greenleaf running, and she finds an increasingly important ally in Sergeant Cary Stewart. Their relationships give the series a warm, close-community feel, even as each new crime makes the town seem less settled than it first appears.

Lend A Helping Paw opens the trilogy when Angelica's bandmate Maisie Prine is found dead. Some locals are quick to blame musical ghouls said to haunt the mountain's shadowy dells, while Angelica and Cary work through a much more human list of suspects. The investigation begins with a murder, but it also points toward a larger question: why are people being drawn into the unsettling places around Mountain Home?

The mountains are part of the mystery.

In A Sleight Of Paw, a whitewater rafting guide is drugged and left in danger near a waterfall. Angelica and Vladimir are drawn back into the investigation, while another disappearance deepens concerns about Foggy Hollow. The book keeps the series' mix of everyday community events, witchy abilities, playful cat moments, and a threat that may not be as supernatural as the rumors suggest.

Have the Upper Paw raises the stakes again when a missing local teen and the murder of a preacher bring fear back to Mountain Home. Angelica keeps following the clues toward Foggy Hollow despite warnings meant to frighten her away. Her connection with Cary develops across the trilogy, but the focus remains on the town, its secrets, and Angelica's refusal to leave people in danger.

These are paranormal cozy mysteries with a musical, mountain-town flavor. Expect an amateur sleuth who knows nearly everyone involved, a police partner who takes the case seriously, and a familiar who adds humor and instinct to the search for answers. The mysteries are separate, yet the strange stories surrounding the mountain dells link the books together.

Begin with Lend A Helping Paw. Reading in order lets Angelica's friendships, romance, and concern about Foggy Hollow build naturally from one case to the next.
