Author bio
Morgan Greene is the pen name of Daniel Morgan, a British author and copywriter who grew up in South Wales. He studied English Literature and Creative Writing at Swansea University, where he paid close attention to story structure, the sort of quiet machinery that makes a thriller feel fast without losing its people.
Before Jamie Johansson arrived, he tried other lanes. He wrote dystopian fiction, worked as a ghostwriter, and spent time in science fiction, romance and YA fantasy. That mix matters. His crime books often move like thrillers, but they keep circling back to damage, loyalty and the cost of doing the right thing.
The switch came in 2020.
That was when he began writing crime fiction in earnest, starting with Jamie Johansson, a detective with ties to London, Stockholm and a very heavy past. The prequel books, including Bare Skin, show Jamie in the Met, still early enough in her career to be shaped by every bad case. Then Angel Maker sends her back to Stockholm and into a murder that echoes the case that defined her father’s career.
The Jamie books are the spine of Greene’s work. Rising Tide traps Jamie on an oil platform in the Norwegian Sea. Old Blood digs into family history, corruption and revenge. Later books such as The Last Light Of Day move the series toward Wales, where the cases become more tied to trafficking, organized crime and the people Jamie tries, sometimes clumsily, to protect.
Jamie is not easy company, and that is part of the point.
Greene’s books tend to be built around people who keep going after they should probably stop. His detectives are stubborn. His criminals are often organized, patient and frighteningly practical. The settings matter too: frozen Scandinavian towns, locked-down industrial spaces, Welsh hills, small American communities and, in the Solomon Church books, the wider world of military and political violence.
He has also written standalones. Savage Ridge is a small-town crime story about three friends who cannot outrun a killing from their teenage years. A Place Called Hope follows Lucas Caldwell, a young man trying to protect his little brother while a secret about a stolen painting brings danger to his door. With The Exile, Greene steps into military thriller territory through Solomon Church, an ex-SAS operator pulled back into old betrayals.
These days, Daniel lives in Southern British Columbia with his partner and a snow-loving collie. That last detail feels right for a writer whose characters are so often tested by cold weather, harsh places and trouble that refuses to stay buried.
