Series background & context
Moran Sisters is Kaylee Ryan's interconnected small-town romance series about four sisters finding love in Magnolia Ridge, Tennessee. The books share a family and a setting while giving each sister a relationship of her own. Coming home, recovering from disappointment and learning to trust again connect the stories. The emotional focus is on how a familiar place can hold both painful memories and people who are willing to offer a different future.
Trying Not to Love You introduces Ellison and Copeland James, whose first romance ended when he left town without an explanation. Ellison has built a life around that absence with help from her sisters and close friends, but she hasn't simply forgotten what happened. Copeland's return because of his mother's illness makes avoiding the past difficult. He is no longer the young man who left, yet being different now doesn't erase the hurt he caused then.
Copeland joined the Marines believing he was making the right choice. Back in Magnolia Ridge, he has to face the distance between his intentions and Ellison's experience of being abandoned. Their second chance depends on more than remembering how strongly they once felt. He wants to fight for a relationship he didn't protect before, while she has reasons to resist reopening a part of her life that took so much effort to survive.
Home makes old feelings harder to keep at a distance.
Trying Not to Need You follows Baylor, who returns after five years in New York and the collapse of the future she expected to share with her partner. Leaving him also means giving up an imagined family life, so returning to her sisters involves grief as well as relief. She needs to work out who she is outside those plans. Romance isn't the purpose of her return, even though someone in Magnolia Ridge has been hoping for another chance to be close to her.
That person is Macklin, a retired bull rider who has loved Baylor for years. His position differs from Copeland's: rather than repairing his own departure, he must show patience with someone hurt by another relationship. The story pairs a woman rebuilding her sense of self with a man who is ready to wait. Her reluctance to depend on him becomes part of the romantic tension, placing care and independence alongside the attraction between them.
The sequence continues with Trying Not to Kiss You and Trying Not to Hate You, extending the focus across the four sisters. Each romance is designed to stand on its own, while reading in publication order introduces the shared circle gradually. Start with Ellison's second-chance story for the opening picture of the family, or Baylor's homecoming if that premise draws you first. Across the series, sisterhood provides continuity while each woman has to decide how much of her earlier disappointment should be allowed to govern what she chooses next.
