Monsters Within Books in Order

Monsters Within is the second-generation spin-off of Monsters & Muses, but it feels different right away. Instead of hopping from one loosely linked standalone to another, this trilogy leans harder into an ongoing plot. The books are set around Avernia College and Fury Hill, an elite academic world with old stone buildings, private rituals, ugly bloodlines, and the constant sense that something is wrong under the surface. The mythology inspiration here comes from the Greek Furies, and the mood is unmistakably dark academia.

The first book, Endless Anger, follows Asher Anderson and Lucy Wolfe, two longtime shadows in each other's lives who end up pulled into campus danger together. Secret societies, pointed threats, and unexplained deaths push their buried feelings into the open. Jealous Rage then shifts to Sutton Dupont and Elle Anderson, turning the focus toward a professor-student relationship with its own set of forbidden stakes. Vengeful Destruction closes the trilogy with Quincy Anderson and Eden Ivers, who are forced to reckon with old feelings and an inheritance of violence they never truly escaped.

This part of the world wants to be read in order.

That is the biggest expectation shift if you are coming from King's Trace or the main Monsters & Muses books. Those earlier series are built so each romance can largely stand on its own. Monsters Within still gives each couple a central love story, but the larger mystery carries across the trilogy. The history of Avernia, the secret societies operating around it, and the consequences of the older generation's choices all build from book to book. Starting with Endless Anger is the best way to let the tension grow the way it was meant to.

The setting does a lot of heavy lifting here. Avernia is an exclusive college, but not a bright modern campus story kind of place. It is ivy, ritual, old money, private clubs, whispered rules, and buildings that seem to remember every bad thing that happened inside them. Even the surrounding world feels shaped by old grudges. That gives the romance a sharper edge, because the couples are never only dealing with attraction. They are also dealing with legacy, suspicion, and the fear that they may be carrying the worst parts of their families forward.

If you like dark academia that still reads like romance first, this series is an easy fit. Expect obsession, secrecy, intense chemistry, and a bigger body count than the title page lets on. The emotional core is really about inheritance, what people owe their families, what they refuse to become, and whether love can survive in a place built on blood and rules. It is a colder, more plot-driven corner of Sav R. Miller's world, and that is exactly why it stands out.
