Miss Fortune World: Sinful Spirits Books in Order

Sinful Spirits is Shari Hearn's most openly paranormal branch of Miss Fortune World. It keeps the familiar small-town setting of Sinful, Louisiana, but moves part of the action into the ghostly realm. The key idea is simple and funny: Marge Boudreaux may be dead, but she is still very much involved in local business.

That setup gives the series two tracks at once. Fortune, Ida Belle, and Gertie are still living through the usual Sinful mess of parties, suspects, bad decisions, and murder investigations. At the same time, Marge is hovering nearby, seeing things they can't see and trying to push events in the right direction. In Happy Birthday, Marge, she needs to stop a threat against Fortune without being able to plainly warn anyone. In Soul Man, she takes up the case of a newly dead artist and tries to help him find justice.

The fun comes from the limits. If Marge could simply walk in and explain everything, there would be no mystery. Instead, she has to work around the rules of the afterlife, missed connections, and the fact that the living women do not know she is there. That makes these books feel a little different from the other Sinful stories. There is still slapstick and gossip, but there is also a gentler frustration, the kind that comes from caring about people and not being able to reach them.

Readers who already love the Swamp Team 3 will probably enjoy seeing the team split across two worlds. Fortune brings the practical side, Gertie brings nerve, Ida Belle brings common sense, and Marge supplies the unseen backup. The cases are compact, but the appeal is bigger than plot alone. These books are about loyalty, unfinished business, and the idea that a friend can still be part of the team even when nobody can see her.

Still, this is cozy paranormal, not horror. The ghost side of the series is more playful than scary. Spirits can have unfinished business, big personalities, and the same stubborn streaks they had while alive. Hearn uses that to keep the tone light on its feet. The crimes matter, but the books never lose their warmth or their sense of fun.

If you like cozy mysteries with ghosts, quick cases, and a lot of affection underneath the chaos, this is a good place to start. It is still Sinful, with all the usual meddling and mayhem. It just has a few more spirits in the room.
