What keeps the series going is the friendship. Matt, Chad, Andrew, and Dean tease each other, compete, get annoyed, make terrible calls, and still keep showing up for one another. Miller understands that age well. The humor often comes from the boys' confidence colliding with reality, but the deeper pull is the loyalty underneath all the noise.
