Author bio
Mia Sosa grew up in East Harlem, New York, in a busy family world that would later help shape the warmth and humor in her romances. Long before she wrote them, she was a committed romance reader. In middle school, she kept a stash of Harlequin novels tucked inside her Menudo magazines.
She carried that reading habit into college and law school. Sosa studied communications at the University of Pennsylvania, where she also met the man who would become her husband. She later earned her law degree from Yale Law School.
For more than a decade, Sosa practiced First Amendment and media law in Washington, D.C. Romance novels stayed close at hand, though. Eventually, she traded the commute and legal work for writing, swapping suits for the sweatpants she has joked are better suited to plotting fictional chaos.
Her 2015 debut, Unbuttoning the CEO, introduced the work-focused, funny, and steamy contemporary romances that became a hallmark of her early career. The Suits Undone books pair ambitious women with powerful men who have to learn that control is not the same thing as connection. The stories balance workplace pressure, family ties, and plenty of sparks.
Then came the Hollywood-centered Love on Cue series, beginning with Acting on Impulse. These books bring actors, agents, trainers, stunt work, fake dating, and complicated public lives into the mix. Even when the setup is big and playful, the people at the center are dealing with familiar problems: privacy, career choices, family expectations, and the risk of wanting more than a casual arrangement.
A few books later, The Worst Best Man put a wedding planner and her former fiancé's brother in the same high-pressure professional competition. The Wedding Crasher followed with a wedding interrupted by good intentions and a fake relationship that grows harder to keep pretend. Both books show Sosa's affection for messy families, sharp banter, and romantic situations that get more complicated by the chapter.
Her later rom-coms keep playing with familiar movie-style setups while giving the characters real reasons to hesitate. In When Javi Dumped Mari, longtime friends Javier and Marisol have to face the feelings they have spent years avoiding. The Starter Ex turns a fake-girlfriend scheme into a test of whether two people can stop performing and be honest with each other.
The jokes matter, but so do the feelings.
Sosa's books often feature capable women with full lives already in motion, and men who have to do the emotional work rather than simply sweep in at the right moment. Her characters can be stubborn, guarded, overprepared, or gloriously bad at admitting what they want. That is usually where the fun starts.
She writes contemporary romances and romantic comedies that celebrate a multicultural world, with settings that range from Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles to destination weddings and family holiday gatherings. Readers can expect heat, humor, affectionate friendships, and plenty of conversations that go sideways before the couple gets things right.
Maryland is now home for Sosa, her college sweetheart, their two daughters, a Cavalier King Charles spaniel, and a rescue cat with a commanding presence. When she is not writing, she has said she enjoys reality television and the occasional stretch of online procrastination. It sounds like useful research for someone who writes romantic chaos so well.
