The Melody Bittersweet books are Josie Silver's playful move into paranormal rom-com territory. At the center is Melody Bittersweet, a young woman from a family of ghost-sensitive women in the charming town of Chapelwick. The Bittersweets have long run Blithe Spirits on the High Street, but Melody wants to do something slightly different with her gift. While the rest of the family pass messages between the living and the dead, Melody decides she would rather get troublesome ghosts out of the way.

In Crazy Spooky Love, Melody opens the Girls' Ghostbusting Agency and lands her first major case, a grand old house where three dead brothers keep ruining viewings. What starts as a cheeky haunted-house setup quickly turns into a proper mystery, with family history, unfinished business, and the suggestion of murder buried under all the chaos. Silver uses that first book to set the tone for the whole series: light spooky energy, quick banter, a case to solve, and a heroine whose work life and love life are both more complicated than she would like.

Melody is not tackling any of this alone. Her world includes her wider Bittersweet family, her best friend Marina, her assistant Artie, and a rotating set of cases that keep the agency busy. There is also Leo Dark, her fame-hungry ex and occasional rival, plus local reporter Fletcher Gunn, who is skeptical, irritating, and very hard for Melody to ignore. Across the books, that emotional triangle keeps adding tension, not in a melodramatic way, but in a funny, tangled, very human one.

By Kooky Spooky Love, the agency is taking on bigger jobs, including haunted Maplemead Castle, where the ghost of trapeze artist Britannia Lovell still swings through the ballroom and refuses to rest. The mystery element stays important, but so does the group dynamic. One of the pleasures of this series is watching Melody's odd little team try to function while surrounded by spirits, gossip, romantic confusion, and the sort of small disasters that seem to follow them everywhere.

Chapelwick matters as much as the ghosts.

The setting gives the series much of its charm. This is a world of old houses, local businesses, family reputations, and a town where everybody seems to know everybody else's business. The books are paranormal, but they are not horror. The mood is much closer to a cozy mystery with kissing, where the stakes are real but the reading experience stays warm, funny, and inviting.

By the time you reach Merry Spooky Love, the series leans even harder into its mix of heart and haunting. A ghostly fight over a beloved department store raises the emotional stakes, while Melody's relationship with Fletcher becomes harder to sidestep. Across all three books, that is really the promise of Melody Bittersweet: lively mysteries, stubborn spirits, romantic mess, and a heroine learning how to trust both her instincts and her own unusual way of helping people.
