Series background & context

Evangeline Anderson’s Mated by Flame: Tales of Dragon Shifter Romantasy combines explicit fantasy romance with the threats and bargains of dark fairy tales. Its dragons are Drakes, powerful beings connected to men who can shift into a different form. The stories follow separate couples through royal expectations, imprisonment, curses, and perilous journeys, using magical bonds to bring together people whose first interests do not necessarily appear compatible.

Bride of the Black Dragon brings Elaina to a royal court where her marriage has been arranged for dynastic reasons. Her family’s bloodline makes her valuable to rulers whose power depends on sons able to host Drakes. The court treats her future as a question of inheritance and royal strength. Meeting the dark and intimidating Xaren complicates the path laid out for her, placing an unexpected attraction beside the marriage for which she has been brought to the citadel.

Mistress of the Red Dragon begins with a different exchange between enemies. Valen has spent a year chained beneath an enemy palace when Princess Irena offers him freedom in return for help. Her mother is dying, and she needs a dragon to carry her across the Poison Desert. His ability to shift requires her blood, so the bargain establishes a physical and magical connection before either can regard the other simply as a traveling companion.

The journey makes a bargain harder to keep at a distance.

Valen and Irena’s quest takes them through cursed places and encounters with dangerous magic. Their need for each other has a practical beginning, but proximity changes what freedom and loyalty mean for them. The story’s rescue objective gives their developing relationship an immediate purpose beyond attraction. It also places a captive man and the enemy ruler’s sister in circumstances where the identities they brought from the palace cannot fully determine their responses to each other.

Priestess of the Silver Dragon follows Elowen after a witch’s curse overturns her sheltered life in the service of the Nature Goddess. Theron, a Drake shifter, becomes her protector and companion in a search for elements needed for a Time Weaving spell. Rewriting the past may be the way to undo the enchantment, but the journey binds them more closely. Across these books, curses and bodily transformations give emotional attachment tangible consequences. Each romance has its own couple and can be read independently. Together they offer variations on a woman entering danger with a formidable dragon partner, where an arrangement made for survival or duty becomes a question of desire and a shared future.
