At Your Service
by Alessandra Hazard
2022
Troy has spent his life as a pleasure servant, trained to be whatever clients need. Assigned to a powerful man whose decisions shape entire worlds, he expects another detached arrangement, until repeated meetings turn a transactional role into a dangerous addiction.
Series background & context
The Masters line is a small but important spin off that explores the darker corners of the Calluvia universe. Instead of royal courts, these stories focus on powerful telepaths and the people who serve them, where control, duty and desire are tightly knotted together.
The core novel, Prince's Master, takes place at High Hronthar, an isolated mountain stronghold ruled by a monastic order of telepaths. Orphaned prince Eridan believes he is just another student until Castien Idhron, the cold strategist who runs the Order, claims him as an apprentice. What begins as a ruthless mentorship slowly turns into an intense, unbalanced bond neither man was looking for.
Through Eridan and Castien you see how this world treats power. Lessons, punishments and small kindnesses are all part of the same game, and the question the book keeps asking is whether a man who does not understand love can still learn to put someone else first.
The novella At Your Service offers a more intimate, high heat glimpse of the same setting. Troy is a pleasure servant hired to entertain Andreas, a client whose political influence reaches across planets. Their arrangement is supposed to be simple, a transaction between a man with too much power and the companion he rents when he needs to switch off.
Of course feelings complicate everything. As Troy starts to crave the very man who is meant to keep an emotional distance, the story leans into longing, addiction and what it costs to ask for more than you were promised.
Together, the Masters books deepen the larger Calluvia mythology with an extra focus on telepathy, manipulation and power exchange, offering some of Hazard's most morally complex relationships for readers who like their sci fi romance with a sharper bite.
