Author bio

Marcella Bell came to romance through a mix of jobs, obsessions, and lived experience that shows up all over her books. Before publishing novels, she spent time around newsrooms and theater stages, and that blend of performance, observation, and curiosity still shapes the way she writes. Her stories can be glamorous, funny, and emotionally messy, but they also keep one foot on the ground, even when the setting includes palaces, billionaires, or a camera crew following cowboys around a rodeo arena.

Bell grew up in the Pacific Northwest, with Portland, Oregon part of that story, and she has spoken about moving around when she was young. She fell in love with reading before she could even read on her own. One of the childhood memories she has shared is reading Put Me in the Zoo aloud to her family, which feels like an early clue to the writer she would become, serious about books, but also plainly delighted by them.

Books came first.

Bell is Muscogee Freedmen, Black, and European-American, and she has been clear that family history matters to her work. She also grew up in a multicultural household, which helps explain why her fiction keeps returning to questions of identity, belonging, and the stories people inherit about themselves. Even in fast-moving category romance, she is interested in who gets centered, who gets overlooked, and what love looks like when history, race, class, and place are already in the room.

That focus is easy to see in The Wildest Ride and The Rodeo Queen, her Closed Circuit books. Bell has said that after years of writing stories with more magic and mayhem, she decided to try a novel where relationships were the center of gravity. A suggestion to write a western opened the door. Instead of leaning on old movie images of the West, she wrote rodeo stories full of characters whose backgrounds and identities widen the picture, which is a big part of why readers tend to remember those books.

Her royal romances work differently, but they come from the same instinct. In Stolen to Wear His Crown, His Stolen Innocent's Vow, and Pregnant After One Forbidden Night, palace duty, wealth, and public pressure crash into very private needs. Snowbound in Her Boss's Bed scales things down to a blizzard, a Hanukkah setting, and one irresistible boss. His Bride with Two Royal Secrets brings back the bright, high-stakes tension of a royal marriage bargain. Across all of them, Bell likes smart women, emotionally defended men, and plots where duty is always one bad decision away from turning into desire.

Her high school classmates even voted her most likely to write a bestselling novel.

The line is funny now, but Bell's path was never just about prediction. She earned both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master's in Public Administration from Portland State University, and she is also a registered yoga teacher. That mix of practical training and creative restlessness helps explain the range in her work. The feelings are big, but the worlds around the characters usually feel lived in, full of jobs, institutions, obligations, and consequences.

These days, her public bios sketch a life crowded with writing, children, reading, anime, corvids, honeybees, travel, and time outdoors. There is humor in the way she describes herself, and that wit carries into the fiction too. Bell writes romance as if love can be both an escape and a way of seeing the world more clearly, which is a big reason readers who click with one of her books often end up looking for the next one.
