Series background & context

The Makeover books are built around a simple question that romance loves asking: what happens when the life you have been performing no longer fits the person you really are? In Shirley Jump's hands, that question turns into two category romances full of image, memory, and second chances.

Appearances are only the starting point.

In Back to Mr & Mrs, high school golden couple Melanie and Cade are long past the easy version of their story. A reunion forces them to reckon with the gap between the perfect image everyone remembers and the marriage they actually have. Married by Morning takes a slightly different path, pairing a playboy hero with a heroine who sees right past charm and knows that chemistry is not the same thing as stability.

What connects the books is the idea of reinvention. Sometimes that reinvention is public, tied to family business, money, or the way other people see the couple. Sometimes it is private and more painful, because it means admitting that a role you have been playing for years is not working anymore.

The tone stays bright and readable, but there is a nice emotional pull underneath. Jump is interested in what happens after the fairy-tale image starts to wobble. These are not makeover stories in the shallow sense. They are stories about whether love can survive honesty.

Readers who like polished category romance with reunions, marriage trouble, and heroes who need to become more than their reputation will find a lot to like here.
