Made To Marry opens with one of Karen Hawkins's favorite engines for romance: a family demand that seems impossible and a hero who is certain he can game the rules. In this case, three Douglas brothers learn that they must marry within months or lose the inheritance left to them through their late sister's will.

The book here, Caught by the Scot, follows privateer Conner Douglas, who thinks he can solve the problem neatly by marrying a respectable woman who will not interfere with the rest of his life. His choice is childhood friend Theodora Cumberbatch-Snowe, whom he badly underestimates. What looks to him like a practical arrangement turns out to be anything but practical once he realizes Theodora has a mind, a history, and desires of her own.

Because this page currently centers on the first book, the background matters as much as the individual romance. The series promise is clear from the start: brothers under pressure, marriage as obligation, and women who are not going to let themselves be treated as tidy solutions. Hawkins uses that setup to create plenty of humor, but there is real feeling underneath it, too, especially around grief, family loyalty, and the problem of growing up after years of doing exactly as one pleases.
