Author bio

Lucy Coleman is a Bristol-born British romance novelist who writes warm, location-rich contemporary fiction. She also writes as Linn B. Halton, and readers who pick up her books quickly see the thread that runs through both names: people at a crossroads, gorgeous settings, and the sense that life can still surprise you in good ways.

Writing was a long time coming.

Before novels took over her days, she spent around twenty years working in finance. Later, her love of homes, design and making spaces feel welcoming turned into a second career in interior design. That practical, creative side still shows up in the fiction. Her books pay attention to cottages, gardens, shops, inns and all the small details that make a place feel lived in.

The shift into writing followed a major personal change. She stepped away from her design work when her mother became ill, and after her mother died, she and her husband decided it was time to make room for the dream she had carried for years. She began writing full time in 2009, and what started as evenings at the keyboard grew into a long-running publishing career.

Another big turning point came at Christmas 2016, when she began looking for agent representation and soon signed with Sara Keane. By then she had already published a number of novels as Linn B. Halton, but she took the name Lucy Coleman for the books she was writing for Aria. The French Adventure, published in 2018, became the first of those books and a good introduction to what she does best.

That novel sends Anna to France after betrayal at work and the collapse of a relationship. From there, Lucy Coleman kept building the kind of stories many readers now come to her for. Snowflakes over Holly Cove pairs a bruised heart with a Welsh seaside Christmas. Summer in Provence looks at a marriage under strain. Finding Love in Positano mixes Italian sunshine with antiques and family secrets. Christmas at Lock Keeper's Cottage adds canals, community and festive chaos to the mix.

Her stories rarely chase high drama for its own sake. She is much more interested in second chances, family ties, healing after loss and the quiet bravery it takes to start over.

Place matters in her books. France, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Scotland, Wales, the Cotswolds and even snowy New Hampshire all get their turn, but the scenery is never just wallpaper. A vineyard, a flower shop, a marina, an inn or a villa usually becomes part of the emotional story. Her characters are often dealing with grief, burnout, old wounds or a life that no longer fits, and the pleasure is watching them slow down enough to work out what really matters.

She has picked up recognition along the way. Her novels have been shortlisted for the Festival of Romance and the eFestival of Words Book Awards, and she won the 2013 UK Festival of Romance award for Innovation in Romantic Fiction. That sits nicely with the range in her wider body of work, which stretches from festive comfort reads to the more unusual romantic fiction she has written as Linn B. Halton.

Now based in Somerset, she lives with her husband and their Bengal cat, Ziggy. Away from the page, she has written about loving paintbrushes, upcycling furniture and the simple satisfaction of making a home. That feels very Lucy Coleman. Her novels are full of people rebuilding, repainting, rethinking and, every so often, falling in love somewhere beautiful.
