Author bio

Luana Ehrlich was born in Sikeston, Missouri, and grew up as a preacher's kid. She has said her father handed her a spy novel when she was eleven, and that was enough to hook her on suspense, mystery, and stories that move fast while still asking moral questions.

That reading habit never really went away.

Long before she published fiction, Ehrlich spent years gathering the kind of experience that now shows up in her books. She married a minister, lived in several states across the South and Midwest, and served with her husband as a missionary in Costa Rica and Venezuela. She also worked as a freelance writer and columnist, writing conversion stories and human-interest pieces for Baptist publications. The reporting side of her work taught her to notice small details and the way ordinary people actually speak.

She also kept a close eye on the news, especially events in the Middle East. That helps explain why her thrillers feel grounded in real tensions, even when the plots are fictional. She likes a high-stakes setup, but she is just as interested in what pressure does to a person's conscience, loyalties, and private life.

Fiction came later than readers might guess. Ehrlich has said she did not begin writing her own mystery and thriller stories until her husband retired after forty years of pastoral ministry in Norman, Oklahoma. A blog came first. Then came the thought that maybe she could write the kind of clean, fast-moving suspense novel she had always enjoyed reading.

One Night in Tehran was the book that turned that idea into a real series.

That first Titus Ray novel grew out of questions she was asking about persecuted Christians in Iran. She imagined a veteran CIA operative who encountered believers in Tehran, came to faith himself, and then had to figure out how that change would affect a career built on secrecy, deception, and danger. That character became Titus Ray, and readers kept following him through books like Two Days in Caracas, Three Weeks in Washington, and Five Years in Yemen. The appeal is easy to see. The plots move, the settings shift, and Titus is never just an action hero. He is competent, flawed, and always balancing the job with what he believes.

Ehrlich has since widened that world. The Ben Mitchell books spin out of Titus's story and lean into the uneasy mentor and protege relationship between the older operative and a younger one who keeps getting in over his head. The Mylas Grey mysteries move into Washington politics, family secrets, and private investigation, starting with One Day Gone. The Silas McKay books head toward corporate espionage and Dallas-based suspense, starting with One Wonders. Across all of them, readers tend to find the same things, clean suspense, capable but imperfect people, touches of humor and romance, and faith that matters without overpowering the story.

Today, Ehrlich still lives in Norman, Oklahoma, with her husband. Her author bios have a little fun with that fact, saying she writes from an undisclosed location while trying to avoid housework, grocery shopping, and golf stories. What she seems much happier to admit is that she likes time with her grandsons and a caramel macchiato.
