Series background & context

#LoveHack is a contemporary romance series from Verlene Landon that begins with DIY Hearts. The title hints at a modern, playful spin on romance, but the story itself is about something more grounded, rebuilding a life after fear has changed it.

Veronica Allen, usually called Ronny, used to see herself as fierce, independent, and ready for anything. Then an attack leaves her shaken in ways she cannot simply brush off. Nearly a year later, she is trying to figure out how to feel like herself again without pretending the experience never happened.

Recovery is not a quick fix.

Clayton Briggs seems to have checked off the practical parts of the life he wanted. He has a successful business, a dream home, and a dog named Roscoe P. Coltrane. What he does not have is the partner he wants to share that life with. When Ronny enters his orbit, Clay has to understand that caring for someone is not the same as expecting them to be ready on his timetable.

The relationship develops around repair work, practical projects, and the small acts that help Ronny reclaim confidence. Power tools and DIY jobs are more than decorative details. They give the story a way to explore control, independence, and the satisfaction of making something work again. Ronny's progress is not presented as a makeover or a rescue. She has to choose what recovery looks like for her.

Landon balances a warm, sexy romance with material that can be difficult for some readers, including the aftermath of violence and trauma. The book makes room for humor and chemistry, but it does not ignore Ronny's fear or the work involved in moving through it. Clayton's role is supportive, not a replacement for her own strength.

Because DIY Hearts is currently the listed entry, it is the clear starting point. Readers can expect a relationship-focused story with a capable heroine, a patient hero, a memorable dog, and a home-improvement theme that gives the romance its own flavor. It is less about grand gestures than about learning to trust your own hands, your own choices, and eventually another person.
