Series background & context
Love Me With Lies is a three book contemporary romance series that follows Olivia Kaspen, Caleb Drake, and Leah Smith, three people locked into a long running love triangle where nobody is innocent.
In The Opportunist, we meet Olivia, a sharp, guarded law student whose chance encounter with her ex in a record store kicks off the story. Caleb has lost his memory after an accident, and Olivia decides not to tell him who she is. The book flips between their college years and the present, slowly revealing how badly they hurt each other.
Caleb’s current girlfriend, Leah, is more than a plot device. She is ambitious, deeply insecure, and just as willing as Olivia to bend the truth. The tension of the first book comes from watching two clever, damaged people push their luck with fate, knowing that secrets never stay buried forever.
Dirty Red shifts the camera to Leah. Opening with the birth of her baby, it spends time inside the head of the woman readers loved to hate. Through her eyes you see how far she is prepared to go to keep the life she fought for, how much of her cruelty is rooted in fear, and how Olivia’s shadow still hangs over her marriage.
Thief is told from Caleb’s point of view and brings the story full circle. His chapters fill in missing pieces from the earlier books, tracing his first meeting with Olivia, his years with Leah, and the moments when everything could have gone differently. The tone is still sharp and unsentimental, but you finally see the depth of his obsession and what it costs him.
Across the trilogy the setting moves from Florida campuses to adult lives scattered across cities, but the emotional focus stays tight on these three people. The books are frank about jealousy, selfish choices, and the way love can be both life changing and deeply unhealthy. There are no easy heroes here, only flawed characters who keep colliding.
If you enjoy messy, character driven romance that leans into bad decisions and their fallout, this series is best read straight through in order.
