Love in Maple Falls is part of a shared small-town hockey world, but it reads more like a community romance series than a sports series first. Whitney Dineen opens this run with Fake-Off with Fate, which brings Ashlyn back home just in time for her to become acting mayor, deal with a town crisis, and cross paths with Jamie, the captain of the new pro hockey team. That gives you the flavor of the wider series right away. Hockey matters, but so do local politics, family drama, seasonal festivities, and the ordinary headaches of living in a place where everybody notices everything.

The tone is sweet and funny, with slow-burn romances and a strong community feel. These are books about helpful people, stubborn people, and the occasional person who is both. The stakes stay human-sized even when the plots get busy. A missing mayor, bad press, and a bear problem can all show up, but the real question is usually whether two people can build a life in the same place at the same time.
