Series background & context

Love Drunk shows a different side of Kristen Luciani. Instead of mafia empires and kidnappings, these books stay in contemporary romance territory. The conflicts are more personal than criminal, built around grief, trust issues, bad timing, and the very human habit of wanting love while being terrified of it.

The series works best as a set of connected standalones. Each book shifts the spotlight to a new couple, but the overall mood stays similar. The people in these stories are adults with jobs, baggage, and complicated histories. They are not floating through cute misunderstandings. They are carrying real hurt, and the romance has to push through it.

You can see that range across books like The Last One, You Belong With Me, Not Over You, and Just Say Yes. One heroine is trying to protect herself after a life-changing diagnosis. Another is a single mother who has no time for a charming man who seems risky. Elsewhere, grief, resentment, celebrity chaos, and plain old fear get in the way. Luciani likes strong chemistry, but she also likes watching people earn trust the hard way.

That is the through line.

If you want dark romance, this is not where to start. If you want contemporary stories with a little more ache, though, Love Drunk is a good fit. The tone is emotional, sexy, and sometimes messy in a very grounded way. These books are about what happens when attraction is the easy part, but choosing someone, and letting yourself be chosen back, is where the real work begins.
