Author bio

Liz Johnson built a writing career the practical way, one late night at a time. By day she has worked in marketing and publicity, and by night she has written love stories with a strong pull toward hope, home, and second chances. She is a graduate of Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, where she studied public relations, and she now lives in Phoenix, Arizona.

Writing started early.

Johnson has said she wrote her first short story at seven and her first novel at twelve. She kept at it through high school and college, even when those early manuscripts did not work. The real turning point came in her mid-twenties, when a friend pushed her to keep a writing calendar and check in every day. That outside nudge helped turn a rough idea into a finished book, and at twenty-seven she signed her first contract.

That first published novel was The Kidnapping of Kenzie Thorn. It launched the suspense side of her career, followed by books like SEAL Under Siege, Navy SEAL Noel, and Stolen Memories. Those early stories are quick, tense, and cleanly plotted, with federal agents, Navy SEALs, witnesses, and women trying to stay one step ahead of very bad people.

Then she headed for the coast.

Her best-known shift came with The Red Door Inn, a Prince Edward Island romance that became a Christy Award finalist. That book, along with Where Two Hearts Meet and On Love's Gentle Shore, showed another side of her writing. Readers who love those novels usually point to the island setting, the gentle humor, and the way she gives hurting characters room to breathe before bringing them toward love.

She stayed with coastal stories in the Georgia-set A Sparkle of Silver, A Glitter of Gold, and A Dazzle of Diamonds. Those books mix romance with family secrets, old diaries, shipwreck lore, and treasure hunts, but they never lose sight of the people at the center. In the later Prince Edward Island Shores books, including Beyond the Tides and Summer in the Spotlight, she kept returning to the things she does especially well: small communities, bruised families, and the slow work of trust.

A lot of Johnson's characters are carrying something heavy. Sometimes it is grief. Sometimes it is fear, shame, or a mistake they cannot stop replaying. She likes inns, kitchens, fishing boats, theaters, and other working places where people have to show up and do the next task even when their hearts are a mess. That grounded, everyday feeling is a big part of her appeal.

So is the promise that things can be mended.

Johnson is also the author of more than a dozen novels, a New York Times bestselling novella, and a handful of short stories. She has been a Christy Award finalist and a three-time ACFW Carol Award finalist. Off the page, she has said she enjoys live music, theater, and doting on her nieces and nephews. She still writes late at night, which feels fitting for an author who has spent years making space for stories in the middle of a full life.
