The series follows Allie Catt, a personal chef and caterer in Bramblewood, a mountain town near Asheville, North Carolina. Her specialty is literary-themed dinner parties based on beloved books. It is a clever idea for a business, and an even better one for a mystery series.

Allie is not just a cook who likes reading. Books are central to how she thinks. She grew up turning to stories for comfort, and now she uses them as creative fuel in her work. A Pride and Prejudice dinner, a Great Gatsby gathering, or another classic-inspired event is not just background color. It shapes the guest list, the menu, the mood, and eventually the crime.

That hook gives the series real personality.

In Murder on the Page, Allie's first big themed events are taking off when her friend Tegan's aunt is murdered and Tegan becomes the obvious suspect. In Murder by the Millions, a Gatsby-style soirée collides with development fights and another killing. The literary tie-ins are fun, but Gerber uses them for structure as much as atmosphere. Each book gets to echo the classic it is nodding to without becoming a parody of it.

Bramblewood is a good home for this approach. The town has bookstores, inns, old buildings, local pride, and enough arts-and-food culture to make Allie's business feel believable. Her best friend Tegan, the bookstore connection, and her tuxedo cat Darcy all add to the sense that this is a world built for readers who like their mysteries cozy but not flimsy.

Allie herself is thoughtful, observant, and a little bookish in the best way. She does not solve murders because she wants excitement. She gets involved because she cannot stand by when someone she cares about is blamed, and because her instinct for story helps her spot what other people miss.
