Liberty Books in Order

The Liberty books are linked small-town stories set in Liberty, Ohio, where personal history never stays buried for long. Some entries feel warm and funny, with romance and community at the center. Others edge into darker territory, with buried crime, old feuds, and local legend shaping the present. Across all five books, the town itself is the constant, watchful presence.

Nolfi uses Liberty in two ways at once. The series has recurring characters, ongoing grudges, and bits of history that keep resurfacing from one book to the next. At the same time, each novel has its own emotional engine. One book may turn on grief and new love, another on family shame, another on a hidden inheritance or a choice that echoes across generations. That mix gives the series both freshness and continuity.

A good example is Second Chance Grill, where Dr. Mary Chance inherits a struggling restaurant and finds herself pulled into the lives of a child, her father, and a town that does not stand back and mind its own business. In Treasure Me, Birdie Kaminsky comes to Liberty hunting Civil War treasure and instead collides with community judgment, family history, and the chance to become someone better than her past suggests.

Liberty remembers everything.

That long memory matters. Nolfi has said some of the town's secrets reach back to the Civil War and even the Revolutionary War. In later books such as The Impossible Wish and Four Wishes, earlier characters keep reappearing while new people face love, aging parents, pregnancy, and hard choices about the kind of life they want. The supporting cast helps the whole series feel lived in, and the old town rivalries give it an extra crackle.

Then there is The Tree of Everlasting Knowledge, which takes the Liberty setting into much darker territory. Here the stakes include buried violence, powerful families, foster children in danger, and the past refusing to stay put. It shows that Liberty is not just quaint or comforting. It can also be the kind of place where generations carry damage until somebody is finally willing to face it.

So what should you expect overall? Strong women, messy families, recurring neighbors, and a town where history has teeth. The books work partly as standalones and partly as one growing community story, so reading in order helps even when a single volume can still satisfy on its own. If you like series that mix heart, secrets, and a strong sense of place, Liberty has plenty to offer.
