Lee Harden Books in Order

The Lee Harden series picks up three years after the original plague story, when survival is no longer the only problem. Lee is still alive, but now he is helping hold together the United Eastern States, a fragile network of safe zones, soldiers, and civilians trying to become a real society. That shift gives the series a different feel from The Remaining. The world is still brutal, but these books are less about first contact with disaster and more about what comes after, when systems start to grow back crooked.

Harden throws Lee and his team into an internal security crisis almost immediately, and the rest of the series keeps widening the battlefield. There are traitors, rival factions, shaky political allies, and outside powers waiting for a crack in the walls. Texas matters. Fort Bragg matters. So do supply lines, command decisions, and the question of how much force a new nation can use before it starts becoming the very thing it says it hates.

Molles also changes the threat on the infected side. The monsters in these books are not standing still. The later Lee Harden arc leans hard into primals, stronger and smarter variations that force the human side to rethink everything. That gives the series a nice double pressure. Lee and his allies are trying to stop enemies with guns and motives, while also facing a biological threat that keeps evolving faster than their plans.

It is still Lee's story, but he is not carrying it alone. Characters like Angela Houston, Sam Ryder, Abe Darabie, and Terrence Lehy help give the books a bigger field of view. Some chapters stay close to front-line action. Others deal with politics, intelligence, or the strain of leadership. That mix is one of the reasons the series feels larger without losing its tension. Everyone is making decisions that matter, and everyone pays for them.

Leadership is the real battlefield here.

Across Harden, Southlands, Primal, Defiant, Unbowed, and Terminus, Lee is pushed from field operator toward something much harder, a symbol, a commander, and sometimes a target. The tone is still fast and violent, but there is more attention to loyalty, state-building, civil war, and what kind of future these survivors are actually fighting for. If you like post-apocalyptic action with a heavier military and political bent, this is the branch of Molles' work that really opens the map.
