Author bio
Laura Trentham grew up in a small town in Northwest Tennessee, and that background runs straight through her books. She writes places that feel lived in, where everybody knows everybody, family history never stays quiet for long, and love has a habit of showing up at the worst possible moment.
That small-town lens never really left her.
In high school, she loved reading and English, but she did not see writing as a practical path. Instead, she studied chemical engineering and spent several years working in a hard hat and steel-toed boots. It is not the route most romance writers take, which makes her eventual shift into fiction feel both unlikely and very Laura Trentham.
The writing came later, when she circled back to what had always been there in the background, a love of story. Since then, she has written contemporary romance, historical romance, and more emotionally layered women's fiction. She moves easily between those shelves, but her books tend to share a few things: strong pull between the leads, characters carrying real baggage, and settings that matter as much as the kisses.
She likes a little bite in the banter.
A lot of readers first meet her through the Sweet Home Alabama books, beginning with Slow and Steady Rush. Those novels bring together football-town energy, stubborn attraction, and people trying to decide whether home is a place they escaped or a place worth choosing again. Caught Up in the Touch and Melting Into You keep that same warm, sexy, grounded feel, with characters who are funny, bruised, and more vulnerable than they want to admit.
Her Cottonbloom novels may be the clearest picture of what she does best. In Kiss Me That Way, Then He Kissed Me, and Till I Kissed You, she uses a town split between Mississippi and Louisiana to build class tension, old loyalties, and complicated second chances right into the setting. Then He Kissed Me was named one of Amazon's Best Romances of 2016, and it is easy to see why readers stick with that series. The town feels real, the emotions get messy, and the couples have to work for their happy endings.
Her historical books show the same instincts in a different outfit. The Spies and Lovers series mixes Regency romance with espionage, danger, and family secrets, while the Laws of Attraction books bring in botanists, astronomers, and women who are smarter than society gives them credit for. On the contemporary side, she has also written deeper, more reflective books like The Military Wife and An Everyday Hero, which focus on grief, military families, healing, and what comes after the part of life that breaks you open.
She clearly enjoys characters with messy pasts and decent hearts.
Now based in South Carolina with her husband and two children, Trentham keeps writing stories that balance humor, hurt, and hope. Whether she is setting a romance in a Southern town, a military community, or Regency England, she keeps coming back to the same question: what happens when people stop pretending they are fine and finally tell the truth about what they want?
